Sitting on a sloping site, with living areas linked to the backyard, on the lower ground, the design approach was to split the house in two perpendicular & interconnected wings around a double storey void, part external, part internal, to bring north natural light into the house in both levels. As a result, the front door is recessed and inviting through a walkpath and bridge alongside a cut-off gable with timber inserts. Inside, all areas in both levels flow around the void whilst still feeling connected to the outdoors, both front and rear.
