From South America to Australia, Building Designer Alex Urena has been creating stylish homes for the past twenty-five years. From his beginnings in Peru, where he worked as a registered Architect in Lima, to his move to Australia, becoming a BDAA Accredited Building Designer and re-launching his business as Alex Urena Design Studio on the south coast of New South Wales, Alex has honed his techniques, creative process and design philosophy across a wide range of residential and commercial projects.
To celebrate a journey in design, 20 Australian Homes showcases a curated collection of some of his studio’s unique builds. It features the inspiration, challenges and methods behind each home, as well as his signature preliminary hand-drawn sketches. Alex shares the story of a journey that crosses two continents, the principles and ideas behind his practice and the importance for him of forming connections, so that all the homes he creates are an honest reflection of their owners and the land on which they sit.
